The New Deal legislation offered a temporary solution to the crisis generated by the Great Depression. The jobless found jobs, the hungry were fed, and the homeless received shelter. Perhaps of more importance, the nation felt the full
impact of system changes. The issue of blaming poverty on idleness and laziness was put to rest—at least temporarily.
