Impact of Skill Development Programs (PMKVY) on Employment Outcomes and Wage Premiums in Central Indian States
Skill development plays a vital role in improving employment chances. The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) aims to train young people across India. This study examines how PMKVY affects employment outcomes and wage levels in Central Indian states.
Researchers focus on Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan. They collect data from the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) and PMKVY administrative records. In addition, they conduct a primary survey of trained and untrained youth in selected districts.
First, the team identifies individuals who completed PMKVY training. Next, they compare these trained individuals with similar untrained youth. They use propensity score matching and difference-in-differences methods to control for selection bias. Moreover, they apply regression analysis to measure the impact.
The study analyzes several key outcomes. These include employment status, type of job, and monthly wages. Furthermore, it calculates the wage premium received by trained candidates. Researchers also examine differences across gender, rural-urban areas, and training sectors.
